The Story of Wellspring

In June 2003, the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church commissioned Andy Lewis to start a new church, which would serve the growing area of northwest McKinney.

In August of that year, 58 people gathered under a pavilion at McKinney’s Towne Lake for the first worship service for what would become Wellspring United Methodist Church.

Six months after its inception, Wellspring held it’s first weekly worship service at Bill Bates Cowboy Ranch. The rustic facility became Wellspring’s temporary home for the next nine months. With a growing congregation, space became limited and Wellspring began looking for a new place to worship.

In September 2004, Wellspring-now nearly 200 members strong-moved to C.T. Eddins Elementary school, where they worshiped for the next 20 months.

In May 2006, Wellspring once again outgrew its place of worship and moved into Ruth Dowell Middle School, where they worshiped for the next 15 months.

Also in May, Wellspring held it’s first Capital Campaign to raise money for land in order to begin building a permanent church home in northwest McKinney (north of 380 and west of I75). To date, Wellspring has raised more than $400,000 and has purchased 10 acres of land at a wonderful site that will enable the church to become a large community of faith for generations to come.

In September 2007, Wellspring moved to Baker Elementary School in order to worship in our 'target area' of northwest McKinney. This location is less than one mile from our land site.
